Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Stilleben located?

Stilleben is situated in Åmot, about 200 kilometres north of Stockholm. Åmot is the perfect homestead to discover three regions in Mid Sweden: Gästrikland, Hälsingland and Dalarna. Each region has its specific natural features, local sights and cultural activities. It is also the perfect combination with a city-trip to Stockholm as the two are so easily combined in a holiday!

How do I get there?

By train
Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) is the most obvious airport as it is connected to the railnetwork allowing you to travel to the other regions in Sweden. From Bromma (BMA) or Skavsta (NYO) you will need to travel by bus (Flygbussarna) to Stockholm Central Station. From Stockholm Arlanda or Stockholm Central Station you have frequent train connections to Ockelbo, the nearest station. Some of the daily connections are direct, but most connections require an easy change in Gävle. Trains should always be booked and paid upfront. This can be done on the website of the national railway company. From Gävle station, you can book a taxi to drive you to Åmot. Unfortunately not anymore from Ockelbo (except with a surplus).

By car
You can also rent a car at the different airports (Bromma being the easiest as it is a small airport) or in Gävle. Traveling by car from the European continent, you follow the E4 highway via Malmö, Helsingborg to Stockholm and Sundsvall. Take the exit Ockelbo and drive straight ahead towards Åmot.

Parking

Free parking is available on the other side of the street and (for electric and hybrid cars) next to the hotel. Please follow the signs. All cottages offer free parking space.

We have 2 charging stations at the hotel. We ask a fixed amount of 150 SEK for Plug-in Hybrid cars (< 25 kWh) and 350 SEK for full-electric cars (> 25 kWh).

Do I need a car?

We get the question a lot. This is highly depending on what you aim for. If you plan on relaxing, wandering and hiking in the nearby forests, coming without a car is perfectly possible. Also a lot of our offered activities, both guided and not do not require own transportation.

If you plan on visiting the region, towns or want to lunch in various locations in the region, this might be more difficult. A few activities we offer (like Ride like the Vikings or the Husky tour) require own transportation.

Please do also consider we do not serve lunch (only Pick Nick on request) and there is no other restaurant in Åmot. However, the store in town (5 minute walk) offers plenty pick nick ingredients, bread and (non- or low alcoholic) drinks.

What can I do at Stilleben?

Apart from visiting the regions around Åmot - Dalarna, Gästrikland and Hälsingland - we offer a wide variety of activities which tie in with our values.

We want to help bring you back to your calm self, connected with your natural surroundings and we have just the things to get you there. From wandering in the fantastic woods around Åmot to mountain biking, canoeing, spotting wildlife, riding horses and fishing or skiing, snowshoe walking in winter. Please consult our activities pages, both guided and rentals for more information!

Also, the cities of Gävle, Falun, Bollnäs and Uppsala are not a far drive away as are wonderful must-sees like the Falun Mines, the - UNESCO protected - Hälsingland Farmsteads or the wonderful coastline to the east.

Can we use the spa?

The spa is a private 2-hour experience which you can book beforehand or when at the reception. We usually have 2 slots per day: from 15:00 to 17:00 or from 20:00 to 22:00. Contact us for more information or check the spa-page.

Reception

Our “reception” is usually open when we have guests. We are always available on the days we have check-ins from 16:00. It can be we are not there though, but we are always reachable on phone. We run a very small hotel so it is not the case there is always somebody at the reception.

Check in/out

Check-in is possible from 16.00 on the day of arrival, also for our cottages. Check-out is at 10.00 latest on the day of departure. Early arrival and late check out may be arranged in prior consultation with us. We will do all we can to facilitate our guests in this respect.

Restaurant

All our hotel guests enjoy breakfast in the restaurant, served at 08:30. We serve a highly curated and home-made breakfast at the table, therefore the fixed time.

A 3-course dinner is served according to a daily menu, always at 18:00 in our restaurant. Due to our small-scale kitchen, tables need to be pre-booked at least 24hrs in advance. We do not serve lunch.

Please notify us of any allergies or restrictions, so that we can do our best to facilitate you in that way. If allergies or dietary restrictions are not communicated when booking but only mentioned last-minute (at check-in or in the restaurant), we cannot cater to them except by removal of parts of the menu to accommodate to your needs.

Alcohol

We serve a selection of apéritifs, beers and wines in our restaurant. It is, however, not possible to order alcohol outside dinner time (17:00 to around 20:00). Own drinks are only allowed in the private space of your rooms (if you are of legal age)*. We do not (and can not) allow own drinks in the public areas, the spa or the garden.

*Age 18 or older.
